Turning on Apple Pay & Google Pay

Let customers check out in one tap. This guide walks you through the quick Stripe setup to make the Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons appear on your Ressto ordering page.

Why turn them on

Wallet payments are the fastest way for a customer to pay — no typing card numbers. They typically lift conversion, especially on mobile.

One-tap checkout

Customers pay with Face ID / fingerprint — no card entry.

Fewer drop-offs

Less typing means fewer abandoned carts on phones.

Trusted & secure

Card details never leave Apple / Google — handled by Stripe.

First, why a quick setup is needed

Your ordering checkout now shows the payment form directly on your own website (a faster, in-page experience) instead of sending customers to a separate Stripe-hosted page.
That one change is why the setup is needed: Apple requires the website that shows the Apple Pay button to be verified with Stripe first. Previously the payment ran on Stripe's own page (checkout.stripe.com), which Apple already trusts — so Apple Pay appeared automatically. Now that it runs on your domain, you register that domain with Stripe once, and Apple Pay works again.

Which domain to add

Use the exact domain your customers see in their browser's address bar when they place an order. Two cases:

If you have your own domain

order.yourrestaurant.com
Add your custom ordering domain — e.g. order.yourrestaurant.com Whatever appears in the address bar on your order page.

If you don't have a custom domain

order.ressto.co
Restaurants on the default Ressto address order at order.ressto.co/your-restaurant — so add just order.ressto.co.

Enable Apple Pay (verify your domain)

A one-time step in your Stripe Dashboard — about 2 minutes.

Step 1: Log in to Stripe

Go to dashboard.stripe.com and sign in to your restaurant's Stripe account (make sure you're in Live mode, top-right).

Step 2: Open Payment methods

Go to Settings → Payment methods, or type "Apple Pay" in the search bar at the top.
Settings → Payment methods → Apple Pay

Step 3: Add your domain

In the Apple Pay section, click Configure → Add a new domain.

Step 4: Enter your ordering domain

Type the domain from the section above — e.g. order.yourrestaurant.com or order.ressto.co — with no https:// and no path.

Step 5: Verify

Click Add. Stripe verifies the domain automatically — this is usually instant. The domain then shows as Verified.

Step 6: Confirm Apple Pay is on

In the same Payment methods list, make sure the Apple Pay toggle is turned on.

Enable Google Pay

Even simpler — no domain step needed.

Step 1: Open Payment methods

In Stripe, go to Settings → Payment methods (same place as above).

Step 2: Turn on Google Pay

Find Google Pay in the list and switch it on. That's it — no domain verification required.

How to test it

Apple Pay and Google Pay each only appear on their own device/browser — so test each one in the right place:

• Open your ordering page, add an item, and go to checkout. The wallet button appears at the top of the payment popup.
• On an iPhone you'll see Apple Pay; in Chrome you'll see Google Pay. You won't see both on the same device — that's normal.

Not showing? Common reasons

Apple Pay isn't appearing on my iPhone

Most likely the domain isn't verified yet — recheck the Apple Pay steps and confirm your ordering domain shows as Verified in Stripe. Also make sure you're testing in Safari (not Chrome) and have a card in the Apple Wallet app.

Google Pay isn't appearing

Google Pay only shows in Google Chrome (Android or desktop). It never appears on an iPhone/Safari. Make sure Google Pay is toggled on in Stripe and you're signed into Chrome with a card saved in Google Pay.

I added the domain but still nothing

Double-check you entered the domain exactly as it appears in the address bar, with no https:// and no path. If you use more than one ordering domain (e.g. a custom domain and the Ressto one), add each of them. Verification is usually instant but can take a short while.
