How to Set Up Tax Slabs and Service Fees

Overview

The Tax Slabs page lets you configure the tax rates that apply to your menu items, and add service fees or surcharges for specific days, services, or payment methods. Ressto supports different tax rates per service type — so Delivery, Takeaway, and Dine-in can each be taxed differently if needed.

How to Get There

  1. In the left sidebar, click Settings.
  2. Click Tax Slabs.

Tax Mode

At the top of the page, select how tax is treated on your menu prices:

  • Menu prices already include taxes — Tax is baked into the price displayed. Customers see one price and no tax is added at checkout. This is the most common setup.
  • Add tax on top of menu prices — Tax is calculated and added to the subtotal at checkout. Customers see the tax as a separate line item.

Click Save after selecting your preferred mode.

Adding a Tax Slab

A tax slab is a named tax rate that you assign to menu items. You can have multiple slabs for different item types (e.g. a 5% rate for food and a 12% rate for beverages).

  1. Click + Add Tax Slab.
  2. In the modal, fill in:
    • Name (required) — A descriptive label (e.g. Standard Food — GST 5%, VAT)
    • Tax rate by service type — Set rates separately for Delivery, Takeaway, and Dine-in. Toggle off any service type that should not be taxed.
    • Rate (%) — Enter the percentage tax rate for each service (maximum 30%)
    • Active — Toggle on to make this slab available to assign to menu items
  1. Click Create Slab.

Once created, the slab will appear in the Tax Category dropdown when editing a menu item, allowing you to assign the correct tax rate to each dish.

Service Fees

Service fees are surcharges added on top of the order total for specific situations — for example, a holiday surcharge, a weekend fee, or a small order surcharge.

Adding a Service Fee

  1. Click + Add fee in the Service fees section.
  2. Fill in the fee details:
    • Name (required) — e.g. Holiday Surcharge, Weekend Fee
    • Type — Choose Percentage (a % of the order subtotal) or Fixed (a flat dollar amount)
    • Percentage or Amount — Enter the fee value
    • Apply percentage on — Choose whether the percentage applies to the Cart subtotal
    • When does it apply? — Choose Every order, Specific weekdays, or Specific dates
    • Service types (optional) — Restrict the fee to Delivery, Takeaway, and/or Dine-in. Leave blank to apply to all services.
    • Payment methods (optional) — Restrict the fee to specific payment methods (Cash, Wallet, Online, etc.). Leave blank to apply regardless of how the customer pays.
  1. Click Save fee.

Tip: Use specific dates for holiday surcharges (e.g. Christmas Day) and specific weekdays for regular weekend fees (e.g. Saturday and Sunday).
