How to Find Clover API Credentials

How to Find Clover API Credentials

To connect Clover to your restaurant dashboard, you need the credentials requested in the Clover gateway configuration: Public Token, Private Token, and Merchant ID.

1. Log In to Clover

  1. Open the Clover Dashboard.
  2. Log in using your Clover merchant account.
  3. Make sure you select the correct merchant account if you manage multiple locations.

2. Find Your Public Token

  1. Open your Clover Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Setup → API Tokens → Hosted iFrame + API/SDK, where available.
  3. Locate the Public Token or generate one if required.
  4. Copy the token and store it securely.

The exact menu labels may vary depending on your Clover account and dashboard version.

3. Find Your Private Token

  1. In the API Tokens section, locate the option for creating or managing a private token.
  2. Generate or retrieve the required Private Token, following Clover’s instructions.
  3. Copy and securely store the token.

The Private Token is sensitive and must only be used in secure server-side integrations. Do not share it publicly.

4. Find Your Merchant ID

  1. Open your Clover merchant account settings or developer configuration.
  2. Locate the Merchant ID associated with the account you want to connect.
  3. Copy the ID and confirm it belongs to the correct merchant.

If you cannot locate the Merchant ID in your account, consult Clover’s developer documentation or contact Clover Support.

5. Enter the Credentials in Your Restaurant Dashboard

  1. Log in to your restaurant dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings → Payments → Payment options.
  3. Open Manage gateways and select Clover.
  4. Enter the required details in their matching fields:
    • Public Token: Your Clover public token.
    • Private Token: Your Clover private token.
    • Merchant ID: Your Clover merchant identifier.
  5. Review the details and click Save.

6. Important Notes

  • Use credentials associated with the correct Clover merchant account.
  • Keep your Private Token confidential.
  • If you replace a token, update the corresponding value in your restaurant dashboard.
  • Test the integration before accepting live payments.
