How to Create a Flat-Off Promotion for Your Restaurant

How to Create a Flat-Off Promotion for Your Restaurant

Not every discount needs to be a percentage. Sometimes the simplest offer works best: "₹15 off your order." A Flat Off promotion gives customers a fixed amount off their bill, which makes the saving easy to understand and easy to budget for. This guide walks through setting one up in the Ressto dashboard, with tips on making it work for your restaurant.

When to choose Flat Off over Percentage Off

A percentage discount grows with the size of the order, so a big order costs you more. A flat discount stays the same no matter what, so you always know exactly what each redemption costs you.

Flat Off works especially well when you want to:

  • Give a clear, simple message ("₹15 off on orders over ₹200")
  • Keep your cost per order predictable
  • Encourage customers to reach a minimum order amount
  • Welcome new customers with a small, friendly reward

Step 1: Set the discount

Discount Amount (₹). Enter the fixed rupee amount customers will save. Quick-select buttons for ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, and ₹15 sit right below the field if you want a fast option. In this example, the discount is set to ₹15.

Minimum Order Value (₹). This is the least a customer must spend to qualify. In our example it's ₹200, so the offer reads "₹15 off on orders over ₹200." A good rule of thumb is to set the minimum slightly above your average order value. That nudges customers to add a side dish or dessert to unlock the saving, which raises your average order size.

A quick way to sanity-check your numbers: divide the discount by the minimum order. Here, ₹15 on ₹200 is a 7.5% discount at the minimum, and it gets smaller as the order grows. That's a sustainable level for most restaurants.

When does it run? Pick one of two options:

  • Start now, no end keeps the offer running until you switch it off. Good for evergreen deals.
  • Pick dates lets you set a start and end date, ideal for festivals, weekends, or a push during slow weeks. A deadline adds urgency.

Step 2: Choose how customers get it

Ressto offers three ways to deliver the offer:

  1. Customer enters a code. The offer appears in your listed offers, and customers type or tap the code at checkout. This is the option used in our example.
  2. Applies automatically. No code is needed. The discount is added to the cart once the conditions are met, which is the smoothest experience for customers.
  3. Secret code. The offer is hidden from your website, and only people you share the code with can use it. Great for newsletter subscribers, influencers, or corporate partners.

If you choose a code-based option, fill in the Promo Code field using only letters, numbers, underscores, or hyphens. In our example the code is FESTIVE2026, a short, memorable code tied to the season. You can also click Generate random to have one created for you.

Naming tip: Good codes are easy to say out loud and easy to remember. Tie them to a season, event, or audience, such as FESTIVE2026, WELCOME15, or WEEKEND15.

More options (optional)

The defaults suit most restaurants, but you can fine-tune the offer by expanding any of these panels:

  • Usage Limits. Unlimited by default. Cap the total number of uses or the uses per customer to control your spend.
  • Audience. Defaults to all customers who are signed in. Narrow it down if the offer is meant for a specific group.
  • Mark promo as. Controls how this promo behaves alongside others. The default is Exclusive.
  • Applicable Service Types. Choose Delivery, Pickup, or both. The example applies to both.
  • Schedule Availability. Defaults to every day, all day. Limit it to certain days or hours, such as weekday lunch or quiet afternoons, to bring in traffic when you need it.
  • Applicable Payment Methods. Restrict the offer to certain payment methods if you want to encourage, say, online payments.
  • Promo image. Uses a default banner. Upload your own to match your branding and make the offer stand out.

Step 3: Create Promotions.
