How to Create a Cashback Promotion for Your Restaurant

How to Create a Cashback Promotion for Your Restaurant

Most discounts reduce the bill today. Cashback works differently: the customer pays the full price now and gets a percentage back afterwards. That small difference changes how the offer feels and how it benefits your business. This guide walks through setting up a Cashback promotion in the Ressto dashboard, along with tips on using it well.

Why choose Cashback

A cashback offer feels like a reward rather than a markdown. It also gives customers a reason to come back, since the benefit is something they can look forward to. Cashback works well when you want to:

  • Encourage repeat orders instead of one-off purchases
  • Build loyalty without permanently lowering your menu prices
  • Make a generous-sounding offer while keeping the upfront order value intact
  • Stand out from restaurants that only offer standard discounts

Step 1: Set the discount

Discount %. Enter the percentage customers will receive back on their order. Quick-select buttons for 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% are right below the field. Notice these options are lower than those for Percentage Off, which includes 25% and 50%. That's because cashback is typically a gentler, loyalty-style reward. A range of 5-10% is a comfortable starting point for most restaurants, while 15-20% is better saved for special campaigns.

Minimum Order Value (₹). This is set to 0 by default, which means every order qualifies. The page's own tip recommends adding a minimum order because it protects your margins and usually raises the average order value. Set it slightly above your typical order. For example, if the average order is ₹350, a ₹400 minimum encourages customers to add a side dish or dessert to earn their cashback.

When does it run? Choose how long the offer is live:

  • Start now, no end keeps it running until you turn it off. Suitable for an ongoing rewards-style offer.
  • Pick dates lets you set a start and end date, ideal for festivals, anniversaries, or a launch week.

Step 2: Choose how customers get it

Ressto offers three ways to deliver the offer:

  1. Customer enters a code. The offer is listed in your offers, and customers type or tap the code at checkout. This is the default.
  2. Applies automatically. No code is needed. The cashback is applied once the conditions are met, so customers never miss out.
  3. Secret code. The offer is hidden from your website, and only people you share the code with can use it. Good for VIP customers, newsletter subscribers, or influencer partnerships.

If you choose a code-based option, fill in the Promo Code field using only letters, numbers, underscores, or hyphens. Keep it short and memorable, such as CASHBACK10, EARNBACK, or THANKS5. You can also click Generate random to have one created for you.

More options (optional)

The defaults work for most restaurants, but you can fine-tune the offer by expanding any of these panels:

  • Usage Limits. Unlimited by default. Limiting total uses or uses per customer helps you control the cost of the campaign.
  • Audience. Defaults to all customers, signed-in only. Narrow it to target a specific group, such as returning customers.
  • Mark promo as. Controls how this promo interacts with others. The default is Exclusive.
  • Applicable Service Types. Defaults to Delivery and Pickup. Choose one if you want to focus on a particular channel.
  • Schedule Availability. Every day, all day by default. Restrict it to certain days or hours to bring in orders during slower periods.
  • Applicable Payment Methods. Limit the offer to specific payment methods if you want to encourage, for example, online payments.
  • Promo image. Uses a default banner. Upload your own to match your branding and make the offer stand out.

Step 3: Create Promotions.
