How to Connect Yoco for Online Payments

How to Connect Yoco for Online Payments

Overview

Yoco is an online payment gateway that allows restaurant owners to accept card payments through their storefront.

The Yoco integration uses a hosted checkout and is intended for businesses operating in South Africa, with payments processed in South African Rand (ZAR).

Step 1: Open Yoco Payment Settings

  1. Log in to your restaurant dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Payments → Payment options.
  3. Under Online payments, click Manage gateways.
  4. Find Yoco and click Connect.

Step 2: Get Your Yoco API Credentials

  1. Log in to your Yoco Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Sell online → Payment gateways.
  3. Locate your API credentials.
  4. Copy the Public key and Secret key.

Make sure you use credentials associated with the correct Yoco merchant account.

Step 3: Configure Yoco

In the Connect Yoco window, configure the following settings.

Enable Yoco

Use the toggle at the top of the window to enable or disable Yoco as an online payment method.

Turn it on when you are ready to offer Yoco at checkout.

Enable this option if you want customers to accept your Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy before placing an order.

The relevant Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy content pages must be activated before this option becomes available.

Display Name (Shown to Customers)

This field determines how the payment method appears on your storefront.

  • Enter a custom name if required.
  • Leave the field blank to use the provider's default name.

Public Key

Paste the Public key from your Yoco Dashboard into the Public key field.

The key generally starts with pk_.

Secret Key

Paste the Secret key from your Yoco Dashboard into the Secret key field.

The key generally starts with sk_.

The Secret key is used for secure server-side payment operations. Never share it publicly.

Webhook Signing Secret

The connection window also includes a Webhook signing secret field.

This secret is used to verify webhook notifications received from Yoco.

If your Yoco integration requires webhook configuration, obtain the signing secret from the corresponding webhook configuration and enter it in this field.

Keep this secret confidential.

Step 4: Save the Configuration

  1. Review the entered credentials.
  2. Confirm that the Public key and Secret key belong to the correct Yoco account.
  3. Enable the gateway if required.
  4. Click Save.

Return to the Payment Gateways page and check the connection status.

Step 5: Test Yoco Payments

  1. Open your restaurant storefront.
  2. Add an item to the cart.
  3. Proceed to checkout.
  4. Confirm that Yoco appears as a payment option when enabled.
  5. Test the payment process using the supported testing environment before accepting live transactions.

Troubleshooting

If Yoco is not working:

  • Confirm that the Public key and Secret key are correct.
  • Check that the gateway is enabled.
  • Verify that your merchant account supports Yoco online payments.
  • Review the webhook configuration if payment status updates are not working.
  • Contact platform support if the issue continues.

Important Notes

  • Yoco is intended for South African businesses and ZAR transactions.
  • Public and Secret keys have different purposes.
  • Never publish your Secret key or Webhook signing secret.
  • Enable the consent requirement only after activating the required legal content pages.
  • Payment gateway availability may depend on your merchant account and region.
