How to Connect SumUp for Online Payments

Overview

SumUp is an online payment provider that can be connected through your restaurant dashboard to offer an additional payment option at checkout.

Where to Find SumUp Settings

  1. Log in to your restaurant dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Settings → Payments → Payment options.
  3. Under Online payments, click Manage gateways.
  4. Find SumUp and click Connect.

Step 1: Get Your SumUp API Credentials

  1. Sign in to your SumUp account.
  2. Open the SumUp Developer Portal.
  3. Review the available API documentation and developer tools for your account.
  4. Obtain the credentials required for your SumUp integration.

The exact credential requirements depend on how the integration is configured in your restaurant dashboard.

Step 2: Configure SumUp

In the Connect SumUp window, review the available settings.

Enable SumUp

Use the toggle to enable or disable SumUp as a payment method.

Enable this option if customers must accept your Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy before placing an order using SumUp.

The relevant legal content pages must be activated before this option can be enabled.

Display Name

The Display Name (Shown to Customers) field controls how SumUp appears on your storefront.

  • Enter a custom display name if required.
  • Leave it blank to use the provider's default name.

Enter the Required Credentials

Enter the credentials requested in the SumUp configuration window. Use credentials associated with the correct SumUp account and environment.

Do not enter credentials into fields intended for a different purpose.

Step 3: Save the Configuration

  1. Review the settings and credentials.
  2. Confirm that SumUp is enabled if you want customers to use it.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Check the gateway status on the Payment Gateways page.

Step 4: Test the Payment Method

  1. Open your restaurant storefront.
  2. Proceed to checkout with an appropriate test order.
  3. Confirm that SumUp appears as a payment option when enabled.
  4. Verify the payment flow using the testing method supported by your integration before accepting live payments.

Troubleshooting

If SumUp does not work as expected:

  • Verify that the credentials are correct.
  • Confirm that the gateway is enabled.
  • Check that the configuration has been saved.
  • Review the SumUp developer documentation for account-specific credential requirements.
  • Contact platform support if the issue continues.

Never share private API credentials in screenshots or support messages.

Important Notes

  • The exact credential fields depend on the SumUp integration available in your dashboard.
  • Do not assume that credentials used for another payment provider will work with SumUp.
  • Enable the consent requirement only after activating the required legal content pages.

Quick Checklist

  • SumUp account accessed.
  • Required integration credentials obtained.
  • Credentials entered in the correct fields.
  • Display name and consent settings reviewed.
  • SumUp enabled and settings saved.
  • Checkout tested before accepting live payments.
