How to Connect Stripe for Online Payments
How to Connect Stripe for Online Payments
Overview
Stripe allows restaurant owners to accept online payments through their storefront. The payment gateway settings let you configure Stripe credentials, choose how the payment method appears to customers, and enable the gateway.

Where to Find Stripe Settings
- Log in to your restaurant dashboard.
- Navigate to Settings → Payments → Payment options.
- Under Online payments, click Manage gateways.
- Find Stripe and click Connect.

Step 1: Get Your Stripe API Keys
- Log in to your Stripe Dashboard.
- Open the API keys section in your Stripe settings.
- Copy your Publishable key.
- Copy your Secret key.
Stripe provides different keys for test and live environments. Use the appropriate keys for your intended setup.
Step 2: Configure the Stripe Connection
In the Connect Stripe window, configure the following fields:
Enable Stripe
Use the toggle at the top of the window to turn Stripe on or off.
Enable the gateway when you are ready to offer Stripe as a payment method to customers.
Require Consent Before Payment
Enable this option if customers must accept your Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy before placing an order using Stripe.
The relevant Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy content pages must be activated for this option to be available.
Display Name
The Display Name (Shown to Customers) field controls the name displayed on your storefront.
- Enter a custom name if required.
- Leave the field blank to use the provider's default name.
Publishable Key
Paste the Publishable key copied from your Stripe Dashboard into the Publishable key field.
Secret Key
Paste the Secret key copied from your Stripe Dashboard into the Secret key field.
Keep the Secret key confidential. Never share it publicly.
Step 3: Save the Configuration
- Review the gateway settings.
- Confirm that the appropriate API keys have been entered.
- Click Save.
Check the gateway status in the Payment Gateways page after saving.
Step 4: Test the Payment Method
- Open your restaurant storefront.
- Proceed to checkout with an appropriate test order.
- Confirm that Stripe appears as a payment option when enabled.
- If using test mode, use Stripe's test environment and test payment credentials.
- Before accepting real customer payments, configure and verify the live credentials.
Troubleshooting
If Stripe does not work as expected:
- Verify that the Publishable key and Secret key belong to the same Stripe account and environment.
- Check that the gateway is enabled.
- Confirm that the correct credentials have been saved.
- Check that the Stripe account is configured to accept payments.
- If the issue persists, contact platform support. Do not send your Secret key in screenshots or support messages.
Important Notes
- Test keys and live keys are not interchangeable.
- Keep your Secret key private.
- The display name is shown to customers on the storefront.
- Enable the consent requirement only after activating the required legal content pages.
Quick Checklist
- Stripe API keys obtained.
- Publishable key entered.
- Secret key entered securely.
- Display name reviewed.
- Consent requirement configured if needed.
- Gateway enabled and configuration saved.
