How to Use Bulk Update in Your Menu

How to Use Bulk Update in Your Menu

Updating items one at a time takes a long time when your menu has dozens of dishes. The Bulk Update feature lets you change prices, categories, tax slabs, packaging charges, availability, and special-instruction settings for many items at once. This guide walks through each part.

Step 1: Open the Bulk Update Window

  1. Log in to your dashboard.
  2. In the left sidebar, click Menu.
  3. On the Menu Items page, look at the top-right corner. Next to the green Add item button, you'll see Bulk uploads and Bulk update.
  4. Click Bulk update.

Step 2: Update Prices

Use this tab to raise or adjust prices across your menu in one go.

  1. Click the Prices tab.
  2. Under Apply to, choose what should change:
    • All (menu items + choices & add-ons): every price on your menu
    • Menu items: only the main dishes
    • Choices & add-ons: only the extras, such as toppings or sides
  3. Under Prices, pick how to change the price from the dropdown (it shows Increase with (%) by default). Then type the percentage in the box next to it.
  4. Under Rounding, choose how the new prices should be rounded:
    • None: keep the exact calculated price
    • Upwards (e.g., 7.62 → 8.00)
    • Downwards (e.g., 7.62 → 7.00)
    • Upwards to .99 (e.g., 7.62 → 7.99)
  5. Click Preview prices to review the new prices before anything is saved.

Step 3: Change Categories

Use this to move many items into a different category at once.

  1. Click the Categories tab.
  2. Check the Items box to confirm how many items are selected (e.g., "25 selected"). Click the edit icon to change the selection.
  3. Open the Categories dropdown ("Choose a category") and pick the destination category.
  4. Click Apply to [number] items.

All selected items move to that category.

Always preview first. A mistyped percentage can change your whole menu.

Step 4: Set the Tax Slab

Use this when several items share the same tax rate.

  1. Click the Tax slab tab.
  2. Confirm the selected items in the Items box.
  3. Open the Tax slab dropdown ("Choose a tax slab") and select the right slab.
  4. Click Apply to [number] items.

Note: This replaces any tax slab the selected items currently have. Double-check your selection before applying.

Step 5: Set the Packaging Charge

Use this to apply a per-item packaging fee for takeaway and delivery orders.

  1. Click the Packaging charge tab.
  2. Confirm the selected items.
  3. Enter the amount in rupees (₹) in the Packaging charge box.
  4. Click Apply to [number] items.

This sets the per-item packaging charge on every selected item. The field starts at 0.

Step 6: Control Availability

Use this to show or hide many items quickly, for example when a section of the menu is unavailable.

  1. Click the Availability tab.
  2. Confirm the selected items.
  3. Choose one option:
    • Show on menu: makes the items visible to customers
    • Hide from menu: removes them from the customer menu
  4. Click Apply to [number] items.

Step 7: Set Special Instructions

Use this to decide whether customers must leave a note when ordering an item, which suits customizable dishes.

  1. Click the Special instructions tab.
  2. Confirm the selected items.
  3. Under Special instruction required, choose:
    • Required: when a customer taps Add, the item page opens so they can leave a special instruction
    • Not required: the item is added normally
  4. Click Apply to [number] items.
