How to Set a Default Tip for Dine-in Orders

How to Set a Default Tip for Dine-in Orders

Overview

The Default Tip option allows restaurant owners to designate a preset tip option as the default for dine-in checkout, where supported by the storefront.

Configuring a default can make the tipping options more convenient for customers while allowing them to choose another available option if the checkout supports it.

Where to Find It

Go to Settings → Dine-in → Tips.

How to Set a Default Tip

  1. Open the Tips tab.
  2. Choose the tip type: Fixed Amount or Percentage of Order.
  3. Add the preset tip options you want to offer, if they have not already been configured.
  4. Find the preset you want to set as the default.
  5. Enable the Default option associated with that preset.
  6. Review the other tip options to ensure the correct preset is selected.
  7. Click Save changes.

Example

Suppose you configure these fixed-amount tip options:

  • ₹20
  • ₹50
  • ₹100

If you mark ₹50 as the default, it becomes the designated default tip option, where the storefront supports that behavior.

Important Notes

  • Configure the tip presets before selecting a default.
  • Choose a default that suits your restaurant's preferences.
  • The default selection does not necessarily prevent customers from choosing another tip option.
  • The exact checkout behavior depends on how the storefront applies the default tip setting.

Final Step

Click Save changes, then review the dine-in checkout to verify how the default tip option is displayed.
