## How to Configure Default Booking Fields

The dashboard provides the following standard fields:

* **Name**
* **Email**
* **Phone**
* **Date**
* **Time**
* **Number of guests**
* **Notes**

Each field has a toggle to control whether it is required or optional.

1. Open the **Booking fields** tab.
2. Review the default fields.
3. Enable the toggle to make a field required.
4. Disable the toggle to make a field optional.
5. Repeat for the fields you want to configure.

For example, you can require customers to provide their name, email, reservation date, time, and number of guests while keeping the phone number and notes optional.

## How to Add Custom Booking Fields

You can add up to **10 additional fields** to collect information beyond the standard booking details.

1. Scroll to the **Additional Fields** section.
2. Enter a label for the new field.
**Example:** Special occasion
3. Select the field type:
   * **Short text:** For brief answers.
   * **Long text:** For longer responses.
   * **Dropdown:** For selecting from predefined options.
4. Use the **Optional** toggle to control whether the additional field is optional.
5. Click **+ Add field** to add another field, if required.
6. Repeat until you have configured the fields you need.
7. Click **Save changes**.

## Example

Suppose your restaurant wants to know whether a reservation is for a birthday or anniversary.

You can add a custom field with the label **Special occasion** and select **Dropdown** as its type. Configure the available choices if the dashboard prompts you to do so.

Customers can then provide this information when submitting their reservation.
