# How to Add Menu Categories and Modifier Groups

# How to Add Menu Categories and Modifier Groups

## Overview

**Categories** help you organise your menu into sections (e.g. Starters, Mains, Desserts) so customers can browse easily. **Modifier Groups** let customers customise their order by choosing add-ons or options (e.g. sauces, toppings, sizes). This guide covers how to set up both.

## Part 1 — Adding Menu Categories

### How to Get There

1. In the left sidebar, click **Menu**.
2. Click the **Categories** tab at the top of the page.

### How to Add a Category

1. Click **+ Add Category**.
2. Enter a **Category Name** (e.g. *Starters*, *Salad & Soup*, *Chicken*).
3. *(Optional)* Add a description for the category.
4. Toggle the category **Active** or **Inactive** as needed.
5. Click **Save**.

The category will now appear in the category dropdown when you add or edit menu items.

| Tip: You can also create a new category directly from the Add Menu Item page by clicking + Create new category in the Category dropdown — without having to leave the item form.

### Reordering Categories

Drag and drop categories in the list to change the order they appear on your storefront menu.

## Part 2 — Adding Modifier Groups

### How to Get There

1. In the left sidebar, click **Menu**.
2. Click the **Modifier Groups** tab at the top of the page.

### How to Add a Modifier Group

1. Click **+ Add Modifier Group**.
2. Enter a **Group Name** (e.g. *Select Add-Ons*, *Sauces*, *Spice Level*).
3. Add the individual options within the group. For each option, enter:
    * **Option name** (e.g. *Extra Cheese*, *Mild*, *Garlic Sauce*)
    * **Price** — Leave as $0 if the option is free, or enter an additional charge
4. Set whether the modifier is **required** (customer must choose) or **optional**.
5. Set the **minimum** and **maximum** number of options a customer can select.
6. Click **Save**.

### Linking a Modifier Group to a Menu Item

Once you've created a modifier group, you need to attach it to the relevant menu items:

1. Go to **Menu → Items** and open the item you want to edit.
2. Scroll down to the **Modifier Groups** section.
3. Click **+ Add Modifiers**.
4. Search for and select the modifier group from the list.
5. Click **Save**.
6. 
The modifier group will now appear as a selection step when a customer adds that item to their cart.
